Suspects in Nov. robbery of jeweler still at large

Philadelphia police last week renewed their plea for information about the men who robbed a Northeast jewelry store at gunpoint in November.

Security cameras inside Belaggio Jewelry, at 2115 Cottman Ave., filmed the entire Nov. 4 episode. At 4:50 p.m., two men armed with guns entered the store and forced three employees to a rear office. The robbers then removed trays containing various types of jewelry from display cases and a safe.

The men fled the store on foot but were soon spotted by an off-duty Philadelphia police officer, who saw them get into a green Ford Contour with a Pennsylvania plate possibly ending in “2204.” The getaway vehicle was parked in a lot behind the Sears Tire store.

As the robbers drove away, the off-duty officer lost sight of them.

One robber was described as black, 40 years old and 5 feet 10 inches to 6 feet tall. He had close-cut hair or might have been bald, with a dark complexion. He wore a dark suit and leather jacket and carried a black handgun.

The other robber was described as black, 35 to 40 years old and 6 feet tall. He had close-cut hair and wore a gray sweat shirt, blue jeans and brown sunglasses with gold frames. He carried a silver handgun.

The robbers are considered armed and dangerous. To report their identities or locations, call 215–686-TIPS or visit www.phillypolice.com. Tipsters may remain anonymous. ••
